Can I install Smart Tiles in a shower?

Our tiles are heat and humidity resistant, so they are great in bathroom areas, however they are not fully waterproof. For this reason, we unfortunately do not suggest using them directly in the shower or bath where they will be in direct contact with significant amounts of water. Water could seep behind or between the tiles and cause damage. They would be fine on the surround areas where it is simply water splash.  If applying above the shower wall, please make sure the surface is completely dry prior to application otherwise they will not adhere properly.

What is the meaning of the printed letters / numbers on the Smart Tiles?

The letters/numbers are for manufacturing purposes only. To determine the desired pattern, we recommend arranging the tiles on the counter before installing them on the wall. When aligning your tiles, make sure to overlap the letters/numbers along the grout lines to ensure they are not apparent.

How should I clean and maintain my Smart Tiles backsplash?

Simply use a sponge to restore your Smart Tiles shine. Use a mild non-abrasive household cleaning products such as dish soap, cream cleanser or glass cleaner.

Where can I buy Smart Tiles?

You can purchase Smart Tiles online or in most large renovation stores. Some decorating boutiques also carry them. Find a store now.

Can I install them over an existing backsplash?

You can install peel and stick Smart Tiles directly over your existing backsplash, whether it is glass or ceramic provided that your surface is smooth, sleek and without texture. You must also take into consideration the width and depth of your existing grout lines as this might affect the outcome. Please click here for more information about installing Smart Tiles over existing backsplash.

Some shapes of tiles (ex: diamond) have more texture than others. We recommend testing with 1 or 2 Smart Tiles that also have texture before doing the full wall.

* IMPORTANT: For the Oslo models, it is recommended that these be installed exclusively on smooth and sleek surfaces. Due to its size, the tile will tend to show any irregularities in the surface. If the surface is even slightly indented such as with a grout line, you must fill any gaps to ensure a smooth application of the Oslo.

For the Norway Bleached Wood and Blok White, it is recommended that these be installed exclusively on a white and smooth and sleek surface. Due to its large size without grout, the tile will tend to show any irregularities and colors of the surface covered.

What must I do before installing Smart Tiles?

The entire surface must be cleaned with a degreaser (TSP, for example) and be completely dry. It is not recommended to use dish soap to clean the walls. Make sure that the ambient temperature is between 18 °C (65 °F) and 35 °C (95 °F) and that the peel and stick tiles are at room temperature. Then follow the installation instructions.

Of course! Use a level to draw a horizontal line on the wall where you will start your first row of tiles. If you make a mistake, don’t worry. Just make sure you don’t apply firm pressure until you are sure of the tile's position.

Yes, they are resistant to the heat of a stove. However, if you have a gas stove without a back control panel or metal plate, you must respect a safety zone (without Smart Tiles) of 20 cm (8 in.) above the surface of the stove in order to prevent direct exposure to an open flame and we recommend to install our Smart Panel. For countertop appliances such as toaster ovens, mini ovens and others, keep a space of 6 cm (2 in.) between Smart Tiles and the appliance. It is important to note that some spices with high density pigment color, such as turmeric, can stain the tile permanently.

Should I add a caulked joint between the tiles and the counter?

It may be advantageous to do so. This way you limit possible water infiltration between the wall and the counter. We recommend silicone-based caulking.

What are Smart Tiles?

The Smart Tiles are manufactured in North America, designed as a do-it-yourself peel and stick tile. Our products are made of an adhesive substrate topped with a gel component called Gel-O™ (which gives it its 3-dimensional look). The tiles are lightweight, easy to handle, to cut and to maintain. They will remain on your walls for as long as you wish them to be. The tiles can be installed in minutes over a clean and sleek surface, without leaving any mess or requiring specialized tools. Especially designed for kitchens and bathrooms (i.e.: backsplashes), the tiles are resistant to stovetops’ heat and bathrooms’ humidity.
